Mikir Shah has over 25 years of experience in Africa across multiple leading local and global financial institutions. In August 2020, in partnership with Helios Investment Partners – the largest private equity investor in Africa, Mikir became the co-founder and CEO of Africa Specialty Risks a (re)insurer that provides risk mitigating insurance solutions to African and international businesses investing in and across the Continent. Prior to the above, Mikir was the founder and CEO of AXA Africa Specialty Risks (2016-2020). Earlier in his career he was Head of Insurance (UK) and Financial Institutions (Africa) at Barclays Investment Bank (2010-2014). Head of IBD and Head of India at FPK/Macquarie Capital Partners (2003 – 2007) and Head of European and Emerging Markets at ABN AMRO Bank N.V. (2000 – 2003). Mikir was born in Kenya, educated in the UK, and trained as an actuary.
