Amadou Hott

Former Senegalese Minister of Economy; Special Envoy for the Alliance for Green Infrastructure in Africa | African Development Bank

A seasoned, dynamic, rigorous, result oriented Executive, Hott has 24 years of international experience in Government-led economic policies, Development finance, Investment banking, Sovereign wealth fund management, Capital markets and in green infrastructure finance, he has a thorough understanding of challenges hindering the growth of developing countries.

Amadou Hott is the Special Envoy of the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) on the Alliance for Green Infrastructure in Africa since November 2022.

Until his appointment, Hott was Senegal’s Minister for Economy, Planning and Cooperation. During his tenure, he helped maintain Senegal’s position as a leading economy in West Africa, helping prevent the recession during the covid 19 pandemic and mobilizing over USD 8 billion of financing for the Government. He spearheaded landmark economic reforms, including the reform of the PPP framework.

Further, before joining government, Hott was AfDB group Vice President for power, energy, green growth and climate change.

Amadou held various Investment banking and Investment advisory positions in New York, London, Dubai and Lagos. He was Director of Millennium Finance Corporation for Africa in Dubai, Chief Executive Officer of UBA Capital in Lagos and the Founder and former CEO of Senegal’s Sovereign Wealth Fund where he launched major infrastructure investment initiatives, including renewable energy projects.

Hott holds an Associate degree in Applied Mathematics from Louis Pasteur University in Strasbourg, France; a bachelor’s degree in Economics; and a master’s degree in Financial Markets and Banking Management from Sorbonne University, Paris.

In 2012, the World Economic Forum nominated him as a Young Global Leader.
